Biography

Nicolas REMY holds a degree in physics, a DEA (Diplome d'etudes apporfondies) and a PhD from the Polytechnic School of the University of Nantes with application to architecture, an acoustics and lighting studies engineer. He was maitre de conférence of the National Higher Schools of Architecture of France and taught in Grenoble (2003-2017) and in Marseille (2006-2008). Since October 2008 he has been teaching at the Department of Architectural Engineering of the University of Thessaly in Volos in the field of architectural technology.
He is an associate professor, responsible for the following courses: contemporary materialities of architecture (4th year), atmospheres in architecture (7th year), acoustic design (3rd year 4 years), assessment and control of environmental noise (master's degree), energy saving and reduction of the carbon footprint of buildings and the built environment (master's degree).

Research interests

At the Department of Architecture of the University of Thessaly, Nicolas Remy develops his research on the issues of applied physics in buildings and the built environment, as well as on the sustainable design of architectural atmospheres.

His work focuses primarily on the relationship between the physical dimensions of environmental phenomena in the application of architecture.

He is also a collaborating researcher of the AAU CRESSON group (CNRS, ENS School of Architecture of Grenoble, France) and deals with the concept of architectural atmosphere as a tool and method for architectural composition.

He was a scientific co-principal in several European Union research programs (European Acoustique Heritage, Esquissons, B-AIR).

He has presented his works at many international conferences (Brazil, France, Greece, England, Italy, Sweden, Portugal, China). In 2016 he co-organized the 4th International Conference on Atmospheres. He was a member of the scientific committee and the organizing team of the 2020 (online) and 2024 (Lisbon and Rio de Janeiro) international conferences. Since 2018 he is co-director of the international network Ambiances (1300+ members, 33+ research groups).

He has participated in many environmental acoustics studies (noise mapping and strategic noise plans) and regularly carries out acoustic studies for private architectural firms.
